About Beyond Borders
Beyond Borders is a funding opportunity which stimulates collaboration between organisations and music creators in England, Northern lreland, Scotland and Wales. It supports organisations to commission new music with partners from a UK country other than their own and enables the work of music creators to be heard by different audiences across the UK.
Awards of up to £15,000 are available and organisations already in receipt of PRSF or funds through our other schemes are welcome to apply. Organisations funded by Creative Scotland or the Arts Councils of Northern Ireland and Wales can also apply, on the condition that the project is additional to an organisation's core work.
Aims
- Support imaginative, high quality co-commissions of new musical works by UK-based music creators in a framework which guarantees more than one performance in different UK countries.
- Encourage partnerships and sharing of expertise between organisations in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England which are committed to the commissioning of new music and the development of local and regional audiences.
- Support projects which are genuinely collaborative and have been developed jointly by the partners involved.
- Enable the funding partners to contribute more significantly to UK-wide new music sector development.
Support is offered to projects which
- Are joint commissions between at least two (but preferably more) organisations in different UK countries
- Commission new work of any genre from UK-resident music creators (e.g. composers/songwriters/producers)
- Are genuinely new and innovative, jointly-devised commissions push the boundaries of a music creator's work
- Result in the commissioned work having at least two confirmed performances in different UK countries.
