Talent Development Partner 2017: Manchester Jazz Festival

Manchester Jazz Festival Talent Development Programme

Manchester Jazz Festival (mjf) is a 10 day celebration of fresh and innovative contemporary music spread across the City centre at the end of July each year. The festival is positioned at the hub of jazz talent development in the North, and from the outset, mjf’s priority has been to encourage new music.

mjf originals hothouse is a year-round showcase, CPD and commissioning programme for jazz artists in the northwest; supporting the creation of new music and sustainable music careers.

Through support from the PRS Foundation as a Talent Development Partner the Manchester Jazz Festival will continue to deliver mjf originals, a flagship scheme for the commissioning of new jazz works, over the next 12 months.

This opportunity will be supported by a new 12 month programme mjf hothouse, aimed at emerging and established jazz artists living and working in northern England: those who demonstrate original artistic potential and are working to achieve a career in the region mixing performance, composition and project leadership.

mjf hothouse is a space where musicians can experiment with artistic risk without fear of failure or the pressure to deliver a finished piece. By including artistic, marketing, production and business mentoring in the process, mjf will develop potential for the whole artist and the work.

Each year, one artist from the programme will go forward to receive the mjf originals commission which will premiere at the festival.
