Will Dutta
![]() | Will Dutta is a pianist, collaborator and the Creative Producer of Chimera Productions. After graduating from Trinity College of Music in 2007, he went on to establish Chimera Productions as a specialist producing and commissioning organisation which traverses the line between classical, contemporary and experimental art music. |
Chimera Productions creatively produces special one-off events and the bi-monthly night Blank Canvas, conceptualizing pioneering commissions and cross-genre collaborations: often presented in interesting and alternative live spaces stretching across art forms.
As passionate a collaborator as soloist, he has performed all over the UK and has recently developed new music with electronica stalwarts Plaid and multi-award winning composers Gabriel Prokofiev, John Richards and Max de Wardener.
Will is Executive Producer of Nonclassical Recordings’ forthcoming release: Gabriel Prokofiev’s Concerto for Turntables & Orchestra featuring DJ Yoda & Heritage Orchestra, which is released on 9 November 2009.
He is also one of the 8 producers selected to participate in the London pilot of PRSF's New Music Plus… Producers scheme. Through this scheme he has undertaken a placement and co-production working with Tate and is mentored by Joanna MacGregor, pianist and Artistic Director of Bath International Music Festival.

Here's what Will has been listening to/reading:
Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto with Ensemble Modern: UTP (Raster Noton)
This stunning album has just been re-issued complete with DVD and forward by David Toop. I love this collaboration for its warmth, variety and subtlety of sound: the acoustic and electronic in perfect balance.
György Ligeti: Works for Piano (Sony Music)
I’m currently learning the first book of studies and pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard gives a particularly full interpretation with a rich tone and strong rhythmic propulsion. This special edition also comes with a comprehensive forward by the composer, which provides a frank insight into the creative process behind these recent piano masterpieces.
SND: Atavism (Raster Noton)
I came across SND at Sonar this year and was absolutely mesmerized by their performance, as well as physically moved by their pointed yet multi-layered sound. It’s a great album that strikes me as being way ahead of its time: a prophetic glimpse into the techno of the 22nd century!
Andy Hamilton: Aesthetics & Music (Continuum)
Theodor W. Adorno: Quasi una Fantasia – Essays on Modern Music (Verso Classics)
I’ve just finished reading Andy Hamilton’s book and found it be a thought-provoking exploration of the key concepts and arguments in musical aesthetics. It also introduced me to the essays by Theodor Adorno, whose writings on the ‘culture industry’ are as acerbic as they are amusing - approach with a large pinch of salt!
