British Music Abroad in SXSW

Rolo Tomassi

18 British acts will be able to attend South by South West (SxSW) in Texas from 18-22 March this year, thanks to support from the PRS Foundation. The British Music Abroad scheme helps some of the UK’s top emerging acts to make an impact overseas and is funded by UK Trade & Investment, British Underground on behalf of Arts Council England and the PRS Foundation. In 2 years over 100 acts have been supported with over £200,000 to attend international showcase events.

The funding scheme is aimed at those who are making waves in the UK and who are ready to make a broader international impact. A large part of the costs of showcasing are travel and accommodation costs which, for an emerging act, can be prohibitive. British Music Abroad provides financial support towards these costs and enables those at this critical stage in their careers to take advantage of the benefits offered by international showcasing.

The 18 acts funded to attend SxSW cover a range of genres and are:

Bishi

Theoretical Girl

Post War Years

Liz Green

The Week That Was

The Chap

Sam Isaac

My Federation

Let’s Wrestle

Rolo Tomassi

Elysian Quartet

Micachu & The Shapes

Kissy Sell Out

We Have Band

John Matthias & Nick Ryan

Sons of Albion

Friends Electric

Jay Jay Pistolet

6 of these acts (My Federation, Theoretical Girl, Sam Isaac, Bishi, Friends Electric and Sons of Albion) will also perform at the PRS Foundation “British Music Abroad” Showcase at the British Music Embassy, Latitude 30, 512 San Jacintois, Austin on Saturday 21 March at 8pm, as an official showcase at SXSW.
