An Tobar, The Tobermory Arts Centre

An Tobar

An Tobar, The Tobermory Arts Centre promotes a year-round programme of music events featuring jazz, rock, classical, contemporary and traditional music. The organisation also runs an education programme aimed particularly at young people and also supports (both technically and financially) the work and aspirations of young people from the islands.

The facilities include a small performance space, seating 50, a dedicated rehearsal room, a digital recording studio and equipment including various instruments.

Other facilities used by An Tobar include all the village halls on Mull and Iona, castles, libraries and some outdoor locations.

An Tobar regularly commissions new music from contemporary musicians including Silence by Michael Marra, An Tobar by Aidan O’Rourke, a day for a reason by the Burt / MacDonald Sextet featuring Keith Tippett and Island by Colin MacIntyre (Mull Historical Society).

The grant from PRSF is a huge support for an organisation which produces a high quality programme on a very restricted budget. An Tobar has received support from PRSF since 2003.
