Friday Night Music 2009-2010
The National Portrait Gallery’s Friday Night Music free concert programme is extremely varied. Concert-goers range from Gallery Members to first-time visitors, and include audiences following individual performers and groups; all are charmed by the unforgettable choice of venues and spectacular musical performances.
Support from the PRS Foundation ensures that new music, commissions, premieres and young outstanding performers / composers regularly appear in Gallery programming. Collaborations with partner organisations such as the Brit School, Royal College of Music, Jazz Services, and Sound and Music ensure that audiences are offered the very best of current UK music of all genres. Every attempt is made to make meaningful and substantial links to the Gallery’s collections, displays and exhibitions with the hope of establishing an informative context that takes in both music and visual art.
The Gallery will continue to strengthen its association with new music during the coming year with performances by Will Grove-White (Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain), the Fidelio Trio, Sound and Music’s Cutting Edge 09 series, Sankorfa Percussion Ensemble, the Royal College of Music Composition Department and Brass Jaw.
