Half Life is an extraordinary outdoor day and night production created by NVA with National Theatre of Scotland and takes place around the environs of Kilmartin Glen, Mid-Argyll (4th – 16th September 2007).
Mid-Argyll has one of the richest prehistoric landscapes in Europe with an unbelievable density of ancient monuments spread over 150 square miles of beautiful coastal landscape with rock carvings which represent a priceless guide to the rich and complex spiritual world of our forebears.
HALF LIFE starts by day, when you are invited to explore a series of atmospheric sites and installations based around known and rarely seen prehistoric landmarks across an extended area. By night, a powerful outdoor production will be staged in an atmospheric forest location, centred around a sculptural set constructed from hundreds of felled logs. This is an intense and visually arresting use of location and prehistoric narrative. Aerial choreography brings the 40 metre high trees into play to create a visually stunning interplay of parallel worlds.
Made possible through the award of PRS Foundation funding, musicians Rhodri and Angharad Davies will take inspiration from the sound installation elements of the daytime interventions and produce the sonic aspect of the night time work. The composers who are known for their strong improvisational flair will play live twice nightly and extend their own creative practices in this charged and historically fascinating setting. The artists will present site specific work that does not separate itself from the space of its presentation, rather incorporating the space into the work.
