Outdoor Culture

Outdoor CultureOutdoor Culture is a young UK company that connects people with the landscape through the arts, learning and play, started in April 2008 by Alistair Will.

I undertake creative production and project management with a range of clients and partners, specialising in bridging the arts and environment sectors. My aim is always to create brilliant new reasons for all kinds of people to spend time outside of buildings.  As a producer, I am interested in how human artifice can draw upon, reflect and locate itself within the wider ‘natural’ world of which we are a product. As indoor culture takes us further and further away from the land that sustains us, so there is a corresponding opportunity to experience and communicate our place in the world. We are still wild creatures.

With support from PRS Foundation, I am producing a live event in May 2009 at the Chimney Meadows Nature Reserve near Bampton in Oxfordshire, in partnership with BBOWT – the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust.  The event will feature a live performance from Robert Jarvis of Echo2, the second piece in his Echolocation series, alongside a number of different imaginative encounters with the nocturnal wildlife of the site.  Robert’s Echolocation concept involves the use of bat detectors, microphones and electronic processors to transform natural sonic phenomena into beautiful and surprising musical compositions. The event is being co-produced by Oxford Contemporary Music.
