SCO - Brian Irvine Commission

SCOBrian Irvine Commission by the SCO

“The Boy Who Kicked Pigs”

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO) performs across the country bringing music to thousands through live performances, broadcasts, recordings and our education projects.  Investment in new music is an integral part of the SCO’s work and each year several pieces are commissioned from emerging and established composers.

With support from the PRS Foundation, the SCO has commissioned a new work from Brian Irvine called “The Boy Who Kicked Pigs”, based on the comedy/horror tale of the same name by author and actor Tom Baker.

Brian Irvine is a brave and original composer whose music reflects a great interest in opposing musical genres from punk, contemporary, classical and jazz.  In his own words, Composition is like the best toy I ever had: all the thrills of a home made go-cart but with more levels than a Sony playstation”

Brian is extremely experienced at crossing the boundaries between the worlds of professional music and education and his appeal to younger audiences is valuable to this project and to the future of classical music.

The work will be performed by the SCO at the premiere in November 2006 in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
